Lalla Fatma N'Soumer (1830 – 1863) was a famous Algerian heroine and resistance leader from the Kabyle region.
She was not just a fighter, but also a military and spiritual leader, who headed the popular resistance against the French invasion in the mid-19th century. She was nicknamed the "Joan of Arc of the Djurdjura" for her bravery, and managed to inflict several defeats on the French army before her capture. Today, she is considered a national symbol of Algerian courage and struggle.
