Lalla Fatma N'Soumer (1830-1863) was a heroine and a leader of the Algerian popular resistance against the French occupation in the Great Kabylia region (Djurdjura). She bravely led battles during the mid-19th century and achieved significant victories. She was nicknamed the "Joan of Arc of Djurdjura" and "Khawla of Djurdjura". She was captured in 1857 and remained imprisoned until her death. She is considered a national symbol of the fighting Algerian woman.
